Inter-group Rivalry:

Inter-group rivalry, often rooted in political or cultural differences, remains a significant concern in KwaZulu-Natal. This rivalry sometimes escalates into violence, with schools becoming the battlegrounds for these conflicts. The presence of rival groups within and around schools not only jeopardizes the safety of students and staff but also disrupts the learning environment, making it difficult for students to focus on their studies.

Drug Abuse:

Drug abuse is another critical issue affecting schools in KwaZulu-Natal. Many students are exposed to drugs and substance abuse within their communities, leading to academic underperformance and various social problems. Schools often bear the responsibility of providing support and counseling to students dealing with substance abuse issues, diverting resources away from academic endeavors.

Crime and Protests:

KwaZulu-Natal has been plagued by high levels of crime and social unrest, which inevitably impact schools. 2022 kzn pass rate

In 2022 the province of KwaZulu-Natal obtained an 83.0% percent pass rate. According to the Department of Basic Education, KZN  was the best-improved province in the country. KZN’s results reflect an impressive increase of 6.2% from the year before. With these results, KZN took the third spot in the country.

• At the top spot, was Free State with an 88.5% pass rate.
• Second, was Gauteng with  an 84.4% pass rate.
• KZN was third, with 83%.
• Number four was the Western Cape with an 81.4% pass rate.
• North West took the fifth spot, achieving a pass rate of 79.8%.
• Eastern Cape came in at number six with an achievement of 77.3%.
• Number seven was Mpumalanga with a pass rate of 76.8%.
• The Northern Cape was number eight with a 74.2% pass rate.
• Limpopo came in last with a 72.1% pass rate.

2021 kzn pass rate

KwaZulu-Natal in 2021 had a pass rate of 76.8%. The province was number five nationwide.

• The Free State again was number one with an 85.7% pass rate.
• Gauteng was second with a pass rate of 82.8%.
• Western Cape came in third with 81.2%.
• Number four was the North West  with 78.2%.
• Mpumalanga was number six with a pass rate of 73.6%.
• The Eastern Cape was number seven with 73%.
• At number eight was the Northern Cape with a pass rate of 71.4%.
• Limpopo took the last spot with 66.7%.

2020 kzn pass rate

South African schools in 2020 were faced with the lockdown that was caused by the COVID-19 pandemic. However, many schools in provinces like the KZN managed to pull through and produce good results. You will remember that because of the Covid-19 lockdown, teaching and learning in South African schools was cut down by almost a full term. KZN however still managed that year to obtain a 77.6% pass rate and take the fourth spot.

• Number one was the Free State with an impressive 85.1% pass rate.
• Second was Gauteng with an 83.8% pass rate.
• Third was the Western Cape with a pass rate of 79.9%.
• North West took the fifth spot with a 76.2 pass rate.
• Number six was Mpumalanga, with 73.7%.
• Limpopo also came in and took the seventh spot with a 68.2% pass rate.
• Eastern Cape took the eighth spot with 68.1%.
• At the bottom was the Northern Cape with a pass rate of 66.0%

2019 kzn rate

In 2019, KZN obtained a pass rate of 81.3%. KZN was number five for the year nationwide.

• The Free State was number one with 88.4%.
• Number two was Gauteng with a pass rate of 87.2%.
• North West was number three with an 86.8% pass rate.
• Western Cape took the fourth spot with 82.3%.
• At number five was KwaZulu-Natal which obtained an 81.3% pass rate.
• Mpumalanga came in at number six with an 80.3% pass rate.
• The Northern Cape took the seventh position with a 76.5% pass rate.
• Eastern Cape ranked eighth with a pass rate of 76.5%.
• Limpopo once again came in last with a 73.2% pass rate.

2018 kzn pass rate

In 2018, KwaZulu-Natal was number six nationwide with a 76.2% pass rate.

• Leading the pack was Gauteng with an 87.9% pass rate.
• Second was the Free State with an 87.5% pass rate.
• Third was The Western Cape with a pass rate of 81.5%.
• The North West improved to 81,1%, taking the fourth spot.
• Fifth was Mpumalanga with a pass rate of 79.0%.
• Seventh was the Northern Cape with a 73.3% pass rate.
• At number eight was Eastern Cape with a pass rate of 70.6%
• And at the bottom was Limpopo with 69.4%.

2017 kzn pass rate

In 2017, KwaZulu-Natal achieved 72.8%, taking the seventh spot in the country.

• Free State was number one with an 86% pass rate.
• Gauteng took the number two spot with a pass rate of 85.1%.
• At number three was the Western Cape with an 82.7% pass rate.
• North West took the fourth spot with a pass rate of 79.4%.
• Northern Cape was number five with a pass rate of 75.6%.
• Mpumalanga was number six with 74.8%.
• Limpopo achieved 65.6%, moving up to the eighth spot this year.
• Last but not least, was Eastern Cape with a 65% pass rate.

2016 kzn pass rate

In 2016, KwaZulu-Natal obtained a pass rate of 66.4%. KZN was number seven compared with the other provinces in the country.

• Free State took the number one spot with an 88.2% pass rate.
• Western Cape took the number two spot with 85.9%.
• Number three was Gauteng with 85.1%.
• North West obtained a pass rate of 82,5%, taking the the fourth spot.
• Number five was the Northern Cape with a pass rate of 78.7%.
• Mpumalanga was number six with a pass rate of 77.1%.

• Eastern Cape was number nine with 59.3%.

2015 kzn pass rate

In 2015, KZN achieved a 60.7% pass rate, making the province number seven in rankings, nationally.

2014 kzn pass rate

In 2014, KwaZulu-Natal obtained a 69.7% pass rate, taking the eighth spot.

• Free State once again led the pack with an 82.3% pass rate.
• So, as already stated above, North West was number two with a pass rate of 84.6%.
• Gauteng  took the third spot with an 84.7% pass rate.
• Western Cape was number four with 82.8%.
• Number five was Mpumalanga with a 79% pass rate.
• Northern Cape took the sixth spot with 76.4%.
• Limpopo moved up to the seventh spot with a 72.9% pass rate.
